Information security seminar in 2019



On November 25, 2019, the 10th University of Tsukuba FD Workshop information security seminar was held at the University of Tsukuba Hall.

As part of this year’seminar, Masayuki Orimo, Director of Information Security Risk Management Office, and Dr. Kazuki Katagishi, associate professor at the Academic Computing & Communications Center, gave a lecture titled “Information security initiatives in University of Tsukuba and Points to be considered”, and 118 participants gathered.

As part two, Dr. Akira Sato, associate professor at the Academic Computing & Communications Center, gave a lecture titled, “There is only a little time until zoning is completed! Consider a network configuration that assumes the occurrence of an incident”, 91 participants gathered for the lecture.

Participants commented such as “It was helpful that the specific examples of information incident in this university and how to set up logs and firewalls.”, “I learned a thinking about building a concrete network”.
It was avaluable opportunity to raise awareness of information security threats that might occur near us.

Microsoft has announced the following as a major product whose support is ended 2019 and 2020.

Support for Office 2011 for Mac, Windows XP, Windows Vista has already been ended. Please stop using it immediately and take necessary measures.

Since security updates will not be provided once the support is ended, you will need to upgrade to a newer version in order to maintain safety.
Server administrators and PC users who use the corresponding products should take action as soon as possible.
Since server products may need to reconfigure not only the product but also the entire server, it is necessary to take action earlier.
For client products Windows 7 and Office 2010, upgrading is possible with the following EES

AY2019 Registration for the ‘INFOSS Information Ethics’ e-Learning Course

The University of Tsukuba has prepared e-Learning materials for self-study aimed at improving ICT (information and communication technology) proficiency of our students and staff. The course covers basic knowledge of ICTs, relevant laws, as well as manners necessary to avoid harm and trouble in the network society.

To take the course, access the University of Tsukuba e-Learning system “manaba.
After reading through the 7 chapters of the textbook, take the 5 completion tests.
Each test can be taken repeatedly. Try achieving full marks on each of them.

Information security seminar in 2018

On November 27, 2018, the 12th University of Tsukuba FD Workshop information security seminar was held at the University of Tsukuba Hall.
As part of this year’s seminar, Dr. Hisashi Nakai, associate professor at the Academic Computing & Communications Center, gave a lecture titled “What to watch out for the general public – basic stipulations and recent cases”, and 146 participants gathered. As part two, Dr. Akira Sato, associate professor at the Academic Computing & Communications Center, gave a lecture titled, “Server management, Don’t miss these key points.”, 151 participants gathered for the lecture.
Students commented that “It was very meaningful to hear about security measures with examples”, and “Specific advice on server management was very helpful”. It was a valuable opportunity to raise awareness of information security threats that might occur near us.
